Sachiko Studio for everything she's taught me since I've been second shooting for her. I would also like to thank everyone who has taken a chance and let me take photos for them! They have all definitely helped me hone my photography skills.
Over the past year, I have learned a lot about photography and am surprised at how much I've come to love it. Since starting photography last year, I have developed more of an appreciation of the world because I see every moment as an opportunity to capture a beautiful photo.
Although I would like to feature a favorite photo from every shoot I have done in the past year, that would result in much too many photos. As a result, here are my top 30 favorite photos over the past year.
Tod ay mark s the one year anniversary since I started T.Wu Photography and I can't believe how far I've come. I'd like to especially thank Nadine Sachiko Hsu of Over the past year, I have learned a lot about photography and am surprised at how much I've come to love it. This is the first photo shoot I ever did by myself. I recruited my wonderful suite mate Christine to be my model. Luckily she was great at posing herself because back then, I wasn't very confident in giving directions like I am now. I was also shooting in aperture mode, and now am confident about shooting in manual mode. Also, what was I thinking about shooting midday at 12pm?! Though I had a lot to learn at that point, I'm still pretty proud of how the shoot turned out. It also helps to have a beautiful model <3
I did a ton of senior portraits last year for some wonderful Arcadia High Students. Ashley (top left) and Angela (right) were freshmen while I was a junior at AHS, so I felt so grateful that they let me practice my photography on them. By the time I finally started getting paid for my sessions, my skills and knowledge improved so much. The result: getting beautiful backlit photos like Alina's senior portraits (bottom left).
As a hopeless romantic, I'm pretty good about pre-visualizing the shots I want to get with the couples I work with. Random notes about each photo... Top left: this was inspired by one of my favorite movies 500 Days of Summer. Top right: I own many random props that I let my clients use like these pinwheels! Bottom left: I requested the couple to bring the umbrella so I could get a shot like this. Bottom right: Nadine's wonderful husband Benson taught me how things could look creative when you chop off some heads (photographer joke, but really, the results look great!).
I've discovered that I really enjoy taking wedding detail shots. I never realized until Nadine showed me that there's a lot of strategic placement to make the shot look beautiful. In the top right shot, I practiced my placement skills to get a Something Blue detail shot. Having this mindset helped me capture shots like the one on the left and bottom right.
I've learned the importance of symmetry, grids, and leading lines as seen by these photos.
I've gotten a lot better at giving directions to create a special moment between my couples and am so happy with the results!
Here is some creative cropping to display the details of the bride and groom of the stylized photo shoot I did.
All the brides I've had the wonderful opportunity to work with looked stunning, so they were naturally easy to work with!
And sometimes my couples look like natural models... Somehow when I give little direction, they give me these amazing looks. As seen from my couples, it doesn't matter if you're dating, engaged, or getting married-- I love working with all couples at any stage of their relationship!
Well there you have it. Thank you to everyone who read through or looked through all of my favorite photos from the year. I feel so proud of how much I have improved over this year and can't wait to see what other sessions I'll run into for the future!
